Originating from the frigid world of Csilla in the Unknown Regions, the Chiss are a near-Human species defined by discipline, precision, and a famously enigmatic reputation. For most of galactic history they remained little more than rumor beyond the Unknown Regions, surfacing in the wider galactic consciousness largely through the actions of one of their own: Grand Admiral Thrawn. Even then, the Chiss Ascendancy kept its borders tight and its true strength carefully veiled. Technologically advanced and highly organized, the Chiss prize logic, strategy, and long-term thinking. Their culture is structured around powerful ruling families that function as political institutions, with personal honor and family reputation carrying immense weight. A Chiss will go to great lengths to avoid bringing shame on their name, and exile for disgracing one’s family is a very real threat. Though cautious and often xenophobic, the Chiss are not ignorant of the galaxy beyond their borders. They study foreign cultures to understand how best to negotiate with—or outmaneuver—them. Their doctrine traditionally forbids preemptive aggression, favoring measured responses once attacked, but when the Chiss commit to war they do so with relentless, calculated efficiency.

Physical Description: Chiss are near-Human humanoids with deep blue skin, glowing red eyes, and blue-black or dark hair. Their faces are typically angular, with sharp features and an intense gaze that many other species find intimidating or unreadable. Their eyes can perceive slightly into the infrared spectrum, granting keen vision in low-light environments, and their hearing and reflexes are marginally sharper than those of typical Humans. They otherwise share similar builds and proportions, making them easy to mistake for Humans at a distance—until their skin and eyes come into view.

Although individuals vary widely, many Chiss come across as aloof or distant in mixed company, masking a razor-sharp tactical mind behind a calm exterior. Stories of their military discipline and unconventional strategies have spread far beyond the Unknown Regions, painting them as cool-headed masterminds who rarely act without a plan.
