The Next Generation of Star Wars Tabletop Adventure

    SWURPG Core Rules Overview

The SWURPG ruleset is the mechanical foundation for running Star Wars adventures at your table. Unlike the homepage, this page serves as a reference manual — a structured index of the core systems that define gameplay. Every rule here is designed to support fast, tactical, and cinematic Star Wars action using a hybrid of Star Wars Saga Edition depth and D&D 5E clarity.

You’ll find clearly defined subsystems for movement, actions, the Force, armor, conditions, healing, skill usage, leveling, and starship combat. Each section links to its detailed rule page, including worked examples that demonstrate how these mechanics play out at the table.

These rules are era-agnostic and function in any period of Star Wars storytelling. Whether your group is running High Republic exploration missions, Clone Wars battles, Imperial-era rebellion arcs, or Outer Rim criminal campaigns, these mechanics provide a consistent and flexible framework.

    🎲 Dice System

SWURPG uses a unified d20 resolution model. Roll a d20, apply ability modifiers and proficiency, then compare the result to a DC or defense score. Advantage and disadvantage replace stacks of conditional modifiers.

Example: A Smuggler tries to bluff an Imperial officer. They roll Persuasion: d20 + Charisma modifier + proficiency bonus.

    🧠 Ability Scores & Proficiency

Six abilities define your physical and mental aptitude. Proficiency scales with level and applies to skills, weapons, and saves. Bounded accuracy keeps numbers tight across all tiers of play.

Example: A Jedi Guardian’s Strength modifier increases melee attack rolls and Athletics checks.

    🎯 Skill Checks & Training

Skills represent specialized training — from Piloting and Mechanics to Use Computer, Stealth, Survival, and Use the Force. Difficulty Classes scale by era and environment, supporting stealth infiltrations, dogfights, diplomacy, and slicing challenges.

Example: A Tech Specialist slicing a security door rolls Use Computer vs. DC 15 for a standard Imperial lock.

    ⚔️ Combat System

Turn-based combat blends tactical positioning with fast Star Wars pacing. On your turn you may move, take an action, use a bonus action if granted, and use one reaction per round. Cover, suppression, lightsaber duels, and cinematic movement all play critical roles.

Example: A Marksman fires from behind cover, gaining +2 AC against return fire.

    🛡 Armor, Defense & Avoidance

AC represents how hard you are to hit. Characters may rely on armor, Dexterity, class features like Defensive Training, or the Force itself to avoid harm. Armor upgrades provide specialized protection without slowing gameplay.

Example: A Jedi Sentinel with Defensive Training uses 10 + Dex mod + defensive bonus instead of armor.

    🌌 Force System

Force powers are activated using Force Points, which scale with Wisdom, class, and level. Powers range from subtle telepathy to kinetic strikes. Force Training unlocks new abilities at key character milestones.

Example: A Force Adept spends 2 Force Points to use Move Object and drag a crate across the hangar.

    ❤️ Healing & Recovery

SWURPG uses rest-based healing, Medpacs, Treat Injury, and class features like Second Wind. Five Medpac tiers support campaigns ranging from street-level firefights to military-scale warfare.

Example: During a Short Rest, a character may use Medpac II to restore moderate HP.

    ✨ Heroic Surge

A limited pool of meta-resources representing cinematic bursts of power. Spend Heroic Surge to reroll, take an extra action, or overcome fear — replicating bold Star Wars heroics.

Example: A rebel spends Heroic Surge to act before an Inquisitor lands a killing blow.

    ⬆️ Leveling Up

SWURPG uses milestone leveling instead of XP bookkeeping. Characters grow through story events, unlocking new class traits, HP increases, Force powers, and ability score improvements.

Example: After completing a major arc, the party levels from 4 to 5 and gains new traits.

    🌀 Multiclassing

Characters may multiclass at level 4, blending two classes in a story-driven progression. Designed for thematic builds — ex-soldiers turned Jedi, smugglers turned rebel leaders, and more.

Example: A Soldier takes a level in Leader to reflect their growing influence in the rebellion.

    🚀 Starship Combat

Dogfights, capital ship battles, chase scenes, and boarding actions all operate on a streamlined starship combat engine. Range bands, shields, hull integrity, crew roles, and maneuvers keep the focus on cinematic action.

Example: A pilot performs an Evasive Maneuver, imposing disadvantage on incoming attacks.

Use this rules index as your SRD-style reference while building characters, resolving encounters, or preparing sessions. Each subsystem contains examples and clarifications to support smooth, fast, and cinematic Star Wars tabletop play.
