The Next Generation of Star Wars Tabletop Adventure

    Latero

The Latero are a diminutive, simian-like Species native to the Mid Rim world of Lateron, a once-prosperous planet known for its spices, ore deposits, and starship manufacturing industry. Standing around 1.5 meters tall, Latero are instantly recognizable for their rounded bodies, four dexterous arms, long ears, and expressive faces. Their pale white, gray, or blue-tinted skin is paired with thick brown hair that lightens with age, most commonly forming distinctive mustache-like growths along the upper lip and sweeping up across the sideburns. As they age, Latero tend to bald prominently, though short stubble remains across much of their head and body.

Despite their small size, Latero are remarkably capable and enterprising. Prior to the Clone Wars, Lateron was home to thriving industries, including the renowned Latero Spaceworks and the prestigious Lateron Space Academy, which trained many of the galaxy’s best pilots. Their personable nature, intelligence, and unassuming appearance allowed them to excel as merchants, freighter captains, business owners, and innovators across the galaxy. Double vowels in their names are common, reflecting deep cultural value placed on family lineage and tradition.

The Clone Wars brought devastation to Lateron, pulling the world into conflict despite having no formal ties to the Galactic Republic. Latero suffered significant loss of life and infrastructure as their planet became an unexpected battlefield. When the Empire rose, it exploited Lateron rather than supporting it, commandeering the Spaceworks and leaving the population vulnerable to pirates, gangs, and widespread lawlessness. By the time of the Imperial occupation, Lateron was a shadow of its former prosperity, forcing many Latero—such as the well-known pilot Greez Dritus—to leave their home in pursuit of safer lives.

Throughout the High Republic and into the Imperial era, Latero populations spread widely across the galaxy, forming vibrant communities on worlds such as Tenoo and Koboh. Many Latero became well-known pilots, scouts, entrepreneurs, and even Force-sensitive operatives. Their friendly dispositions, natural multitasking ability, and knack for improvisation made them valuable members of crews and adventuring parties, while their small stature and nonthreatening appearance often led others to underestimate them—a mistake few repeated once they witnessed a Latero managing four tasks at once with uncanny efficiency.
