Traits

Power Attack

Before making a melee attack the Massassi can take a -2 penalty to the attack roll to add +4 to the damage on a hit. (The Power Attack feature.)

Savage Charge

If the Massassi moves at least 10 feet straight toward a target and hits it with a melee attack the same turn, the hit deals an extra 7 (2d6) damage and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked Prone.

Alchemical Vigor

Naga Sadow's alchemy toughened the Massassi against harm — it has resistance to Chem-Toxic (poison) damage and advantage on saving throws against being Poisoned.

Relentless (Second Wind)

Once per short rest, as a bonus action, the Massassi regains 10 (2d8) hit points. (The Soldier Second Wind feature.)

Fearless Thrall

The Massassi can't be Frightened, and has advantage on saving throws against being Charmed — bred and broken to obey its master without question.

Actions

Multiattack

The Massassi Warrior attacks twice with its Massassi Lanvarok in melee; or it makes one ranged (disc) attack with it and then one melee attack if it closes into reach.

Lore

The Massassi were a warrior caste of the ancient Sith species — tall, red-skinned, and fearsome — enslaved by the Dark Jedi exiles who conquered Korriban and made themselves Sith Lords. Loyal to the death and bred for battle, the Massassi were the muscle of the old Sith Empire, the shock troops who died in the thousands so their masters could rule. Under Naga Sadow, and later Exar Kun on Yavin 4, the Massassi were subjected to Sith alchemy that twisted them further: hunched, monstrous, and stripped of much of their old cunning, they degenerated across generations into savage brutes that lived only to obey and to kill.

A Massassi warrior is a wall of alchemically-swollen muscle that swings a Massassi lanvarok — a two-handed war-polearm that hurls razor discs by raw strength and then serves as a battle-axe when the enemy closes. They feel little pain, fear nothing, and will not stop while their master's will drives them forward. What they lack in tactics they make up in ferocity and numbers, and a Sith Lord who fields a pack of them is telling the party exactly how little it values the lives between itself and them.

In Play

The Massassi is your faction's heavy — send it in first and let it soak damage while the casters work. It wants to close: use Savage Charge to open, knocking a key target prone, then grind with Power Attack. Its Disc Volley gives it a turn-one option against a ranged party before it reaches them. It has no retreat instinct and no self-preservation — a Massassi fights to 0 hit points every time. Pair two or three with a Sith Sorcerer or Sith Lord and the brutes become the anvil the caster's hammer needs.

Adventure Hooks

  1. The Temple BuildersOn a jungle moon, alchemically-twisted Massassi are hauling stone for a Sith temple that should not exist. Someone is rebuilding what Exar Kun left behind — and the Massassi will kill anyone who comes to find out who.
  2. The Last Pure BloodOne Massassi among the brutes is not yet fully degenerated — it still remembers speech, and a life before the alchemy. It could be a guide into the Sith stronghold, if the party can reach it before its master notices it thinking for itself.
