Backstory
Lessa was born into the coastal reef-clan of Sa'Anselm on the southern hemisphere of Glee Anselam, where her family had tended the same brackish-water kelp gardens for nine generations. She came of age in the open water, her tresses learning to read the chemical signatures of fellow swimmers long before she could speak. Her clan-mother noticed something unusual when Lessa was eleven: the girl could feel the moods of fish she had not yet seen, and the storms that broke over the reefs three days before the sky-watchers' instruments registered them. The clan elders consulted the visiting Jedi water-sage who toured the southern reefs once a generation, and the sage's quiet verdict was that Lessa was Force-sensitive — but too old, by the Order's standards, to begin formal training.
She might have stayed in the reefs and become a clan-mother herself. Instead, at sixteen, she signed onto a long-haul aquatic-cargo crew working the ports between Glee Anselam, Manaan, and Mon Cala, and over the next decade she taught herself what the Order would not. She read what fragmentary texts she could find, sat at the edges of Jedi conclaves passing through her ports, and learned by watching. Her Tresses Sensory Network gave her an edge no other apprentice had: she could feel the emotional tide of any room, sense who was lying, who was afraid, and who was about to make a decision that would change everyone's day.
Without a Master, her training has been uneven. She knows Mind Trick but is hesitant to use it. She can heal a small wound and hold it together long enough for medical attention to arrive. She has a basic, polite Force-Push she uses to clear hostile drunks rather than disarm trained fighters. And she has Feel the Force, which she trusts above all the rest — it has saved her life four times now, and her clan once.
She currently works as an itinerant negotiator and grief-counselor for crews moving through Outer Rim ports — captains call her in to mediate when a deal is going bad or a crewmate is breaking down, and she charges what they can spare. She carries a short sword her father gave her when she left home, mostly as ballast: she has drawn it twice in eight years, and only once with intent. Her real work is the listening, and the calm, and the long quiet pause before she speaks.
Roleplaying Tips
- ▸Read the Room First: Tresses Sensory Network gives Advantage on Insight to sense motives or emotional states, and Feel the Force lets her sense intent at a distance — narrate Lessa pausing before any new conversation to taste the room, and ask the GM what she senses before deciding how to act.
- ▸Force Heart, Light Hand: Lessa never trained with a Master; she favors Force Push and Force Healing as polite, controlled tools rather than weapons. Default to de-escalation, healing, and Mind Trick; treat any combat use of the Force as a quiet failure to read someone earlier.
- ▸Hydration Habit: Nautolans need moisture; in dry climates Lessa wears a damp scarf, takes water breaks anyone else would skip, and physically slows in low-humidity settings. Lean into the small, repeated rituals of damping her tresses and drinking carefully measured amounts.
- ▸Sa'Anselm Hospitality: Reef-clan culture treats every meeting as a small ceremony. She greets people with both hands open, listens longer than expected before answering, and treats food shared in her presence as semi-sacred. Be slow to anger and quick to offer water.
- ▸Ally to Crews, Not Causes: She works for individual ships and the people on them, not for governments or factions. She will help anyone she likes, refuse anyone she doesn't trust, and feel no obligation to either Republic or Empire — her loyalty is bought one crew at a time, in long voyages and shared meals.
