Dowutins are long-lived, massively built humanoids from the frigid world of Dowut. Legends claim no Dowutin has ever died of old age; instead, they fall in battle or to the many dangers of their harsh homeworld. Whether myth or truth, Dowutins are undeniably among the strongest and toughest sentients in the galaxy, making them highly sought after as soldiers, mercenaries, and bodyguards. Their immense pride, however, often prevents them from serving those they consider weaker or unworthy. On Dowut, strength and combat skill are viewed less as sources of glory and more as practical necessities. Those who are strong and capable claim resources, status, and respect; those who are not, simply do not survive. Dowutins raised in this environment often struggle to adapt to the rest of the galaxy’s more abstract criteria for authority and leadership. Many find themselves baffled—or infuriated—when physically unimpressive beings wield power over them.
Home Planet: Dowut (frigid Core Worlds planet near the Unknown Regions)
Physical Description: Dowutins are towering, aggressively built humanoids with chin horns, thick claws, and extremely dense, often brown or orange-brown skin that shrugs off cold with ease. They are hairless, with rounded, wrinkled heads, upturned noses, small deeply set eyes, and wide mouths filled with heavy teeth and prominent fangs. Their massive frames never stop growing: by their second century, many rival Wookiees in size, and by their fifth, they can weigh a metric ton or more, their footsteps and voices literally shaking the ground.
Average Height: 2–3 meters (can grow much larger with age)
Average Weight: Hundreds of kilograms; eldest individuals can exceed 1–2 metric tons
Age of Adulthood: 50 standard years
Personality & Customs: Dowutins are blunt, irritable, and famously humorless by most galactic standards. They speak as directly as they fight, seeing little value in polite fictions, half-truths, or sugar-coating. To a Dowutin, unnecessary subtlety and deception simply complicate matters. Their culture prizes raw strength, endurance, and personal survival above all, with age and sheer physical presence carrying enormous social weight. Young Dowutins are cast out to survive alone in the wild; those who return have proven their worth. Most Dowutins are solitary and deeply proud, instinctively resisting taking orders from smaller or weaker beings. Offworlders who work with them quickly learn to frame commands as suggestions, requests, or joint decisions, and sometimes let Dowutins believe they are in charge just to keep operations stable. Many Dowutins who leave Dowut become mercenaries, gladiators, or enforcers, and a notable number have ties to dark-side traditions or violent factions across history.
