Dugs are small, wiry arboreal humanoids from the Mid Rim world of Malastare. Strong and agile for their size, they are exceptional climbers and jumpers, using their inverted limb arrangement to swing, scramble, and launch themselves with startling speed. Once proud warriors of their own world, the Dugs fought a long and brutal conflict against Gran colonists—only for the Galactic Republic to ultimately side with the Gran and enforce a truce that demilitarized Dug society and pushed them into political and economic marginalization. In the centuries that followed, Dugs developed a deeply ingrained culture of resentment and wounded pride. They see themselves as beleaguered underdogs, wronged by history and forced to claw for every scrap of respect. Many cling fiercely to tales of past heroes and martyrs, using them as proof that the galaxy has underestimated them for far too long.
Home Planet: Malastare (Mid Rim)
Physical Description: Dugs are vaguely humanoid but with a dramatic inversion of limb use: they walk on their powerful upper limbs and use their lower limbs as arms and hands. Long, hand-like feet and strong forelimbs give them a distinctive, inverted posture and excellent climbing and grappling ability. They have long snouts, floppy ear flaps adorned with bead strings, and wide mouths filled with flat teeth. Their skin ranges across earthy tones and muted colors such as beige, brown, gray, or tan. Male Dugs possess a loose throat flap that can be inflated to produce booming mating calls.
Average Height: 1.0 meter
Average Weight: 30–35 kilograms
Age of Adulthood: 15 standard years
Personality & Customs: Culturally, Dugs are confrontational, quick-tempered, and proud to a fault. They prefer intimidation and aggression over diplomacy, seeing the galaxy through the lens of being continually wronged and forced to fight for what is ‘rightfully theirs.’ Their xenophobia often manifests as open bigotry, and they are notorious bullies when they believe they hold the advantage. At the same time, they are fiercely determined and stubborn survivors. A central element of Dug culture is the veneration of supposed heroes and martyrs in their family line. Beads worn on their ear flaps represent these figures, each bead linked to a story of sacrifice or defiance. Questioning the legitimacy of a Dug’s martyr beads is considered a grave insult—one that, traditionally, can only be retracted by the death of the offender. Many Dugs who leave Malastare channel their aggression into careers as racers, mercenaries, enforcers, or other high-risk professions where their agility and ruthlessness can shine.
