Hunter's Senses
Your ears, your nose and your night eyes are a predator's, and none of them has a volume control. You have darkvision out to 60 feet and Advantage on Perception checks that rely on hearing or smell. You have Disadvantage on saving throws against effects that blind, deafen, or overwhelm your senses.
Predator's Claws
Claws and long teeth mean you are never truly unarmed. Your unarmed strikes deal 1d4 slashing damage.

Lore
Shistavanen are a lupine species from the forested world of Uvena Prime in the Outer Rim, known for running down anything they hunt, for senses that miss nothing, and for wanting very little to do with the rest of the galaxy. The nickname the galaxy uses for them is wolfmen, and most Shistavanen would rather the galaxy did not use anything at all.
The build is a predator's. A Shistavanen has a long muzzle, pointed ears set high on the skull, sharp claws and long teeth, and large eyes that catch and throw back light. What sets them apart from every other predator species is stamina: a Shistavanen can run at speed for hours without tiring, dropping to all fours when the ground favours it and coming back up to two limbs when it does not. Their hearing and sense of smell are as sharp as their night vision, and all three cut both ways — a flash-bang or a chemical spill costs a Shistavanen far more than it costs the being standing next to them. Their biology is not entirely natural, either: alongside ordinary evolution, someone engineered them, and no source says who.
Uvena Prime is a world of forested continents and wide oceans, sitting with the rest of the Uvena system in the Seswenna sector, and the Shistavanen did not stop at one planet. Having reached hyperspace travel on their own, they went out and settled the system's other uninhabited worlds — Uvena III among them — for the express purpose of making sure nobody from outside could. Their trade laws favour their own kind openly and without apology, and offworld traders who complain are invited to trade elsewhere. Most Shistavanen live their whole lives at home and never see a reason to leave. By the time of the Galactic Civil War the homeworld answered to a monarchy, which kept a royal star cruiser named the Malachite Scent (Legends).
That isolation is the species' defining political fact, and it costs them. Other beings meet a Shistavanen rarely enough that the meeting is startling, and a face built for hunting does not help a first impression. The ones who do leave tend to take work where the reputation is an asset rather than a liability — scouts first and foremost, then mercenaries and bounty hunters, because the galaxy will happily hire a tracker it would not invite to dinner.
The most famous of them in the old accounts is **Lak Sivrak**, an Imperial scout and hunter drinking in Chalmun's cantina on Tatooine the day the galaxy changed, who later turned on his employers and flew for the Alliance (Legends — Sivrak was in the 1977 cut of the film and was digitally replaced two decades later). **Voolvif Monn** carried a lightsaber instead: a Jedi Master and general who survived Geonosis and fought at Muunilinst, and who was said to have perfected a barrier of pure Force energy (Legends). In current canon the species surfaced again with **Brutus**, a pirate and the first Shistavanen seen in live action since 1977.
As a player character, a Shistavanen is the one who finds the trail and then never loses it. **Speed 35** and **Tireless Runner** make you the party's pursuit specialist, **Hunter's Senses** give darkvision and a nose and ears that read a room before anyone speaks, and **Predator's Claws** mean disarming you accomplishes nothing. The costs are honest: **CHA −2** and **Wary of Outsiders** make you a poor choice for the one doing the talking, **INT −1** reflects an insular education rather than a dull mind, and those same magnificent senses hand you Disadvantage whenever something blinds, deafens or overwhelms them. Scout, soldier, bounty hunter or Jedi, a Shistavanen who left Uvena Prime always has a story about why.
Physical Description
Shistavanen are lupine bipeds with pronounced muzzles, long pointed teeth, and ears set high on the skull that swivel toward sound. Their eyes are large and reflective, glowing in low light the way a hunting animal's do. Their hands and feet end in sharp claws that serve for climbing, digging and fighting with equal ease, and their bodies are covered in fur. (Assumption: sources do not give a standard height, weight or age of majority for the species.)
Their frame is built for pursuit rather than for a single burst of speed. A Shistavanen can run for hours without flagging, shifting between two limbs and four as the terrain demands, and the shift is unremarkable to them — it is simply how one covers ground. That endurance, more than the claws or the teeth, is what makes them the scouts and trackers other species hire.
The senses that make them superb hunters have no volume control. Hearing and smell are both far keener than a Human's, and their night vision is excellent, so a Shistavanen in a dark forest is effectively at home. The same equipment turns a stun grenade, a sonic weapon or a chemical leak into something considerably worse than an inconvenience.
Culture & Personality
Shistavanen are wary, direct and comfortable with silence. Their culture is built on keeping to its own: the species colonised every world it could reach in its home system specifically to keep strangers out, and a people who do that do not generally arrive at a negotiation looking for friends. Offworlders read them as cold, aloof or threatening, and Shistavanen rarely spend effort correcting the impression.
Among their own the picture is warmer. Uvena Prime society is close, family-centred and deeply territorial, and a Shistavanen who has accepted someone as one of theirs will run themselves into the ground for that person. The distance is reserved for outsiders, and it is a cultural posture rather than a personal temperament — which is why the ones who leave home often surprise the crews they end up on. They keep their own language, too, and a Shistavanen speaking Basic to an offworlder is already making a concession most of their people would not bother with.
A Shistavanen who does leave is usually pushed by curiosity or by work, and both lead to the same places: scouting, tracking, hunting, soldiering. They tend to be pragmatic about the galaxy's opinion of them, using the predatory reputation where it helps and enduring it where it does not. As adventurers they are patient, physically relentless, and happiest with a trail in front of them and the talking left to somebody else.
Famous Shistavanen Characters
Lak SivrakImperial scout turned Rebel pilot
Sivrak worked as a scout and hunter for the Empire before turning up in Chalmun's cantina on Tatooine in 0 BBY, where he met the Lamproid Dice Ibegon. He later joined the Rebel Alliance and flew an X-wing at the Battle of Endor. He appeared in the 1977 cut of the film and was digitally replaced by another alien in the 1997 Special Edition, which is how the galaxy's best-known wolfman quietly left the screen (Legends).
Voolvif MonnJedi Master and general
Taken as an infant by the Jedi Paouoish Rahhdool, Monn was among the Jedi sent to Geonosis in 22 BBY to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, and one of the few to walk away. He made Jedi Master on the strength of that campaign, fought at Muunilinst, and was said to have perfected a rare technique that wrapped him in a barrier of Force energy (Legends).
BrutusPirate
Brutus is a Shistavanen pirate, and the first of his species shown in live action since 1977 — a gap of nearly fifty years for a species that had been quietly written out of the film it debuted in (Skeleton Crew).
