Backstory
Cade Varr was born on Iridonia, where he discovered three things early in life: he was an excellent shot, a convincing liar, and spectacularly bad at knowing when to shut up. He eventually left home and built a career drifting between cantinas, cargo ships, gambling dens, and bounty contracts. He became known for finding people who didn't want to be found, usually with a charming smile and a blaster pointed somewhere deeply inconvenient. Unfortunately, Cade's greatest weakness was never his aim. It was his greed. One day, two rival crime syndicates independently hired him to capture the same fugitive. Rather than tell either employer, Cade decided he could collect both payments. He successfully captured the target, sold the prisoner's location to the first syndicate, negotiated a higher fee with the second, and attempted to convince both that the other had stolen their prisoner. There was one small problem. The two syndicate representatives were brothers. And they were having dinner together when Cade called. By the following morning, Cade had two canceled contracts, three separate bounties on his head, and a very compelling reason to leave the sector. He now travels with a crew because having friends with weapons is significantly cheaper than hiring bodyguards. He insists he isn't running from his past. He's simply “pursuin' a diversified portfolio of opportunities.”
Roleplaying notes
Personality Traits: Cade is effortlessly charming, confident, sarcastic, and almost incapable of taking a threat seriously. He enjoys gambling, flirting, and making enemies underestimate him. Ideals: Freedom. Nobody owns Cade Varr. Contracts are sacred, but morality is negotiable. Bonds: His rifle, his reputation, and eventually the crew that earns his loyalty. Flaws: Excessively overconfident Gambles when he shouldn't Terrible at maintaining romantic relationships Will take unnecessary risks to prove a point Sometimes values money more than common sense Refuses help even when he desperately needs it Personal Code: Never shoot somebody for free. Never betray a client unless the money is exceptional. Always honor a deal. Technically. Never fall in love with a target. Again. Never admit when a shot was lucky. SIGNATURE QUOTES “Now, sweetheart, I ain't sayin' I'm gonna shoot you. I'm sayin' there's fifteen thousand credits worth of reasons I might.” “I have morals. They're just expensive.” “I don't miss. Occasionally, the universe puts somethin' in the way.” “Alimony? Yeah, that's my rifle. Cost me everything and she's still the only woman I trust.” “Darlin', I never said I was a good man. I said I was a good shot.” ROLEPLAY AND COMBAT STRATEGY Cade prefers to scout ahead, locate his target, find elevated cover, and open combat with a precise shot. He uses Stealth and Perception to control engagements, Deception to manipulate targets, and intimidation when his charm fails. He avoids prolonged close-range combat whenever possible. Outside combat, Cade is the crew's negotiator when dishonesty is useful, its tracker when someone disappears, and its greatest liability whenever gambling is involved. Campaign Hook: Cade's enemies are still looking for him, and joining the party gives him protection, new opportunities, and somewhere to disappear.
