    Miraluka

The Miraluka are a Near-Human species whose most defining trait is their complete lack of functional eyes. Instead of conventional sight, they perceive the galaxy entirely through the Force—an innate, species-wide talent known as Force sight. To other beings they appear almost Human, save for their empty or vestigial eye sockets, which most Miraluka cover with veils, masks, visors, or cloth both out of practicality and to avoid drawing attention. Behind these coverings is a people who perceive the world as patterns of energy, life, and motion rather than color, light, and mundane detail.

The Miraluka once lived on an unknown homeworld that suffered a catastrophic environmental collapse, forcing them to flee and eventually settle on the world of Alpheridies in the Abron system. Bathed in the dim red light of the dwarf star Aber, they gradually lost their ability to process visible light and, over generations, came to rely entirely on the Force to navigate their surroundings. This long evolutionary shift intensified their sensitivity to the Force and ultimately erased their eyesight altogether, leaving only empty sockets as a physical reminder of what their ancestors once possessed. From that point forward, Miraluka culture, religion, and daily life became inseparable from their unique understanding of the Force.

A deeply spiritual and contemplative people, Miraluka view the Force not as an abstract power, but as the fundamental fabric of existence. Many embrace the philosophy of the Greater Force and speak of Ashla (the light) and Bogan (the dark) not as simple moral labels, but as natural aspects of reality that must be understood and respected. Even so, Miraluka society strongly rejects the corrupting influence of the dark side, treating a fall to darkness as a grave tragedy and cultural taboo. Their Force traditions are formalized in the Luka Sene, an order of Force-sensitive administrators, scholars, instructors, and seekers who guide their society and sometimes intervene when one of their own strays toward the shadows.

Historically, the Miraluka have tended to remain on Alpheridies, living humble lives as farmers, scholars, teachers, and civil servants, with relatively little interest in conquest, wealth, or technological expansion. Their worlds are sparsely industrialized and only lightly mechanized—most Miraluka simply do not feel compelled to chase rapid advancement or galactic influence. Yet their natural affinity for the Force has drawn many of them into the Jedi Order over the millennia, where Miraluka have served as Jedi Knights, teachers, archivists, battlefield seers, and administrators. Their Force sight gives them a unique perspective on allies and enemies alike: to a Miraluka, a Jedi or Sith is a blazing presence in the Force, impossible to mistake.

The species has also endured more than its share of tragedy. The Miraluka colony on Katarr was annihilated when Darth Nihilus consumed all life on the planet during a Jedi convocation, an atrocity that sent shockwaves through both Miraluka culture and the wider Force-sensitive community. Later, the rise of the Empire, its humancentric ideology, and the Great Jedi Purge claimed thousands more Miraluka lives. In the eras that followed, many Miraluka traveled incognito, masking both their heritage and their Force nature to avoid persecution—especially during events like the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, when anything connected to the Force became a dangerous liability.

Those Miraluka who do leave Alpheridies often become Jedi, mystics, scholars, or careful wanderers searching for a personal path that aligns with their inner sense of purpose. They tend to be cautious, deliberate, and slow to anger, but are almost impossible to dissuade once they commit to a course of action. In a galaxy where many beings chase power and glory, the Miraluka stand apart as quiet, determined practitioners of a living Force that they literally see all around them.

    Home Planet: Alpheridies
Physical Description: Miraluka are physically similar to Humans in build, height, and general appearance, typically standing around 1.8 meters tall with average Human proportions. The most striking difference is their lack of eyes. Instead, they possess smooth, featureless or vestigial sockets, which they nearly always conceal behind veils, headbands, visors, masks, or decorative wrappings. To casual observers, especially those unfamiliar with their species, a Miraluka can easily pass as Human so long as their face covering remains in place. Because they do not rely on normal vision, Miraluka body language and facial expressions can sometimes seem reserved or distant, with more emphasis placed on posture, tone of voice, and subtle shifts in the Force than on eye contact or expressions. Their physical range of complexions, hair colors, and builds largely mirrors that of baseline Humans, allowing them to blend easily into Human-majority populations when necessary. Though outwardly unremarkable, their perception is anything but: through Force sight, they sense living beings, objects, and motion as luminous impressions in the Force, unaffected by darkness, mundane concealment, or most illusions based solely on light or color.

    Average Height: 1.8 meters
    Average Weight: 75 kilograms
    Age of Adulthood: 16 years

Personality & Customs: Miraluka are thoughtful, cautious, and introspective by nature. They value deliberation over impulse, contemplation over spectacle, and long-term balance over short-term gain. Personal ambition, greed, and glory hold little appeal to most Miraluka; instead, they seek meaningful roles in their communities as teachers, mediators, administrators, farmers, or spiritual guides. Once they commit to a decision or path, they are famously difficult to sway, preferring to endure hardship rather than abandon a chosen course without compelling cause. Miraluka culture emphasizes education, spiritual development, and communal responsibility. They view one another as an extended family and commonly address each other as “brother” and “sister,” reinforcing their sense of shared identity and mutual obligation. Their laws and customs focus on compassion, rehabilitation, and redemption rather than harsh punishment. Execution or lethal measures are considered a last resort, used only when there is no other way to prevent greater harm. This ethic extends to their Force traditions: the Luka Sene, their primary order of Force sensitives, trains its members to accept change, mortality, and the flow of time as natural truths, and to avoid the possessive fear that leads to the dark side. When Miraluka travel off-world, they usually try to avoid drawing attention, maintaining understated clothing and simple coverings over their eye sockets. Many outsiders never realize they are dealing with a non-Human Species, and Miraluka rarely take offense at the mistake. Those who feel drawn beyond Alpheridies often become Jedi, scholars, or wandering mystics who serve local communities far from home. Even then, their reserved demeanor and the unsettling stillness of their covered gaze can make them seem distant or difficult to read to those who do not understand how they perceive the world.
