Somebody asked for it
There's a feedback box in the character builder. Someone used it:
"What would make it better is the ability to roll the skill checks and attack rolls after the character is made."
Which was a fair hit. The builder would work out that your Stealth is +7 and your blaster's attack bonus is +8, print both on the sheet, and then leave you to go find a dice app like it had nothing to do with the matter.
Now the numbers roll themselves.
Tap a number, get a roll
Open a character, go to the Summary tab, and every bonus with a die beside it is a button. Tap it and the result lands in a tray at the corner of the screen with the arithmetic spelled out:
FIST ATTACK
23
d20 (15) + 8 = 23
What rolls:
- Skill checks — all 19 of them
- Saving throws — all six
- Weapon attacks — one per weapon you're carrying
- Damage — offered the moment an attack resolves, with its own button for a critical
- Initiative
The ability modifier column deliberately doesn't roll, and that's not an oversight. SWURPG resolves skill checks, attack rolls, saving throws and initiative — a bare ability check isn't one of its rolls. That number is an ingredient in the others, so it stays a number.
The part a dice app can't do
Any dice roller on your phone can add 7 to a d20. What it can't do is know your character.
Advantage and disadvantage apply themselves, and say where they came from. Play a Falleen and your Persuasion rolls two dice and keeps the higher, because Pheromonal Allure says it does — you don't have to remember. Play anything Small and Stealth does the same thing for the same reason. Hold advantage and disadvantage at once and they cancel into one straight roll, which is the rule and is easy to get wrong in your head at 11pm.
A weapon you're not trained with already costs you. Pick one up and the −5 is baked into the printed bonus, with a line underneath telling you why it's there. At level 5 that's an eight-point swing between a trained and untrained shot — exactly the sort of thing that quietly gets waved through at a real table.
What it won't guess for you
Conditional traits stay your call, on purpose.
A Falleen is Cold-Blooded: Disadvantage on Endurance in extreme cold. The builder has no idea whether your GM has put you on an ice moon or a pleasure barge, so it rolls Endurance straight and leaves the judgement where it belongs. Same for every other trait that hangs on the fiction rather than the sheet. A roller that guessed would be worse than one that asks you to think for a second.
Criticals double the whole hit
Worth spelling out, because this is where SWURPG parts company with some other systems. A critical hit does not mean rolling the damage dice twice. You roll the hit normally, then double the total — modifiers included:
FIST DAMAGE (CRITICAL)
22
1d12 (9) + 2 = 11 → doubled = 22
Eleven, doubled, is twenty-two. Not 2d12 + 2. The button does it the rulebook's way, every time, which is one less argument to have mid-combat.
Built for the table, which means built for a phone
Most people reading their sheet during a session are holding a phone, so the sheet got reworked to suit one. Every die is a proper 44-pixel target rather than something you stab at twice. The Weapons table used to run about 800 pixels wide inside a 324-pixel screen — on a phone it showed you the weapon's name and hid everything else behind a sideways scroll nobody knew was there, which meant the attack roll, the one you reach for most, was the one you couldn't get to. It now stacks into readable blocks with the attack die right there.
Go roll something
It's live in the Character Builder now — open a saved character, or load one of the pre-made characters if you want to try it without building first, and head to the Summary tab.
And the feedback box that started this is still there. It works, evidently.
