Effect

Through the forbidden Sith science of *essence transfer*, you refuse to let death end you. Over a 1-hour ritual you prepare a vessel — a Sith Holocron, a specially grown clone body, or a living host you have subdued — and bind a fragment of your consciousness to it. If you are slain while a prepared vessel exists, your essence flees into it rather than joining the Force. Bound to a Holocron you persist as a Sith spirit that can teach, command, and corrupt; bound to a living or cloned host you may, over days or weeks and at the GM's discretion, wrest control of the body and continue your existence within it. This is the darkest and least reliable of Sith arts — a defiance of the natural order that the Force itself resents. Its full costs, its timeline, and its many ways of failing (a shattered mind, a body that rejects you, a spirit trapped forever in a cold artifact) are adjudicated by the GM. It is a story you play out, not a stat block.

At the Table

Knowing the duel may kill him, the Sith Lord spends the night before it in ritual, spending 6 FP to bind his essence to the black pyramid of his Holocron. When the Jedi's blade finds him the next day, he does not die — his consciousness pours into the Holocron, and from it he begins, patiently, to look for a new body and a new apprentice foolish enough to open it.

In the Lore

Essence transfer is the crowning obsession of Darth Plagueis's Book of Sith writings and the oldest dream of the Sith: to cheat death itself. From the spirits haunting the tombs of Korriban to Darth Andeddu, Exar Kun, and Palpatine's own cloned resurrection, the dark side is littered with those who refused to die. It is never clean and never safe — the Force resents the theft, and most who try it end as trapped, hateful ghosts. That has never stopped a Sith from trying.
