The Death Watch: Mandalorian Terror on Jetpacks

· 5 min read

Pre Vizsla's Death Watch descend on the SWURPG bestiary — five jetpack-borne Mandalorian stat blocks from TR 4 to 8, arriving with a full personal-flight ruleset.

Death from above

A Death Watch ambush doesn't start on the ground. It starts overhead — beskar-plated warriors dropping out of the sun on jetpack fire, blaster bolts and homing darts already in the air before your party knows the fight has begun. By the time anyone thinks to look up, the wing has peeled away to hit them again from a new angle.

The Death Watch are Pre Vizsla's warrior-cult: the Mandalorians who rejected the pacifist New Mandalorians and swore to drag their world back to its fighting past. They've joined the SWURPG bestiary as five stat blocks — and because a faction that lives in the air needed the sky to actually mean something, they arrive with a full jetpack ruleset behind them.

Meet the wing

Five units, laddered from an elite skirmisher to a set-piece boss:

  • Death Watch Warrior (TR 4) — the jetpack-borne rank and file, and already a cut above a line trooper. Blue beskar, a WESTAR-35 in hand, and a vambrace loaded with whistling birds.
  • Nite Owl (TR 5) — the elite aerial strike wing. Faster and deadlier, dual-wielding a pistol in each fist, built to hunt from above.
  • Mandalorian Super Commando (TR 6) — the red-armored heavies of Maul's era. A wrist flamethrower, a vibroblade for when they close, and beskar that turns aside the first blow of every exchange.
  • Nite Owl Commander (TR 7) — a leader whose command aura sharpens the whole wing's aim and hardens it against fear.
  • Death Watch Warlord (TR 8) — the boss. A beskad in hand — a beskar saber that catches a lightsaber blade and gives nothing back — plus a battle cry that scatters a party's nerve and a sweeping strike that carves through anyone foolish enough to cluster.

The famous names — Pre Vizsla, Bo-Katan Kryze, Maul, Satine — live in the lore, not on the stat blocks. These are the generic units a GM actually drops into a fight, tuned so the whole faction reads as tougher than a same-level line trooper. That's the point of the up-tiered ladder.

Jetpacks, finally with rules

Until now, a flying enemy was a hand-wave at the table. No longer. The Death Watch run on the new Jetpacks & Personal Flight rules — and so can your players.

  • Fire on a Bonus Action. A burst of the pack grants a flying speed and lets you hover until your next turn — but every burst spends a Thrust Charge, and a jetpack only holds a handful before it runs dry. That fuel clock is the counter: a patient party can wait out the sky.
  • High ground is real now. Firing down on a target from above ignores the ground cover it's crouched behind, and a prone enemy is simply exposed. Height is an advantage, not a cliché.
  • Fly one yourself. Want your own jetpack cavalry? The Jetpack Training trait — an ASI-alternative pick — lets any character fight on the wing without the clumsy penalties untrained pilots suffer.

Beskar doesn't break

Half of what makes a Mandalorian hard to kill is the iron they wear. Beskar armor now carries its properties right on the armor entries: it shrugs off fire, scatters blaster bolts, and — in solid plate — cannot be cut by a lightsaber at all. The Warlord's Beskad is that same iron shaped into a saber, and it catches a lightsaber blow unharmed. The wing's sidearm, the WESTAR-35, hits as hard as a heavy blaster pistol but keeps a normal sidearm's full effective range — the mark of Concordian Crescent engineering.

Send them at your party

The full wing — stat blocks, tactics, and lore — is live in the Monsters & NPCs bestiary. Read the jetpack rules, then drop a Death Watch strike on a party that thinks it owns the ground.
