About the Chitin War-Plate

The war-plate is the soldier-caste answer to the scout's weave: the same chitin, but chosen thicker, hardened with resin, and layered into a proper cuirass with pauldrons and greaves. It is the armor a Geonosian warrior wears into the arena and the armor Outer Rim smiths copy when a client wants medium protection that won't wear them down on a long march. Its selling point is weight — where a metal cuirass of equal protection runs ten kilos or more, a chitin war-plate comes in a few kilos lighter, close protection without the burden. What forging costs it is flex: harvested chitin, once cured and bonded into rigid plate, loses the living suppleness it had on the creature, which is why a war-plate limits how much a fast fighter can lean on their reflexes even as it hits a soldier's weight class for protection. Like all chitin gear it carries the material's radiation-deadening quirk, which makes it a natural pick for fighting in reactor spaces, on scorched worlds, or anywhere the air itself is a hazard. It is not the toughest medium armor made, but for its weight class few pieces let a fighter hit as hard for as long.

Notes

Layered, hardened chitin plating in the Geonosian soldier-caste style — the same protection as light battle armor at a few kilos less, thanks to chitin's natural lightness. Uncommon. The wearer has advantage on saving throws against radiation and irradiated environments.
