About the Chitin Weave

Chitin weave is what happens when an armorer stops fighting an insectoid exoskeleton and starts working with it. Thin, overlapping plates of harvested chitin — most often Geonosian, though any hive world with a large enough species will do — are cured, trimmed, and laced onto a woven mesh underlayer that flexes with the body. Kept thin and laced loose, the plates hold on to more of the chitin's living give than a forged war-plate does, which is exactly why the weave stays agile where heavier chitin gear turns rigid. The result is startlingly light for the coverage it gives: a scout can wear it under a coat and still move in near silence, and the plates shrug off a glancing bolt or a knife that would open unarmored flesh. Chitin's other quirk comes free with it — the same dense, layered structure that shields a hive-dweller from the radiation storms of its homeworld deadens radiation for whoever wears the weave. It has become a quiet favorite among Outer Rim trackers, salvagers picking through irradiated wrecks, and anyone who values staying fast and staying unseen over stopping a direct hit.

Notes

Harvested insectoid chitin plates laced over a flexible mesh underlayer — light, breathable, and quiet, favored by scouts and skirmishers who want real protection without giving up mobility. Uncommon. The chitin naturally deadens hard radiation: the wearer has advantage on saving throws against radiation and irradiated environments.
