About the Carbonite Projector

Carbon-freezing was invented to preserve raw tibanna gas for transport; the underworld, as it does, found a crueler use. A carbonite projector sprays a flash-freezing compound that sheathes a target in cooling metal, slowing and then stopping them where they stand — the same process that hung Han Solo on a wall for a season. It is a temperamental, dangerous tool: a botched freeze can maim or kill, and a healthy, struggling quarry rarely holds still long enough to be encased. In practice a hunter uses it to slow a cornered mark and then finishes the job on a beaten one, sealing them for a long haul in a ship's carbonite hold. Restricted almost everywhere, it is prized by the hunters who deliver the impossible acquisitions anyway.

Notes

Rare, Restricted. On a hit, the target takes 1d6 Cold damage and must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Dexterity modifier) or be Restrained as carbonite sheathes it (it or an ally frees it with an action and a DC 14 Strength check). It cannot fully freeze a foe that is still fighting: a creature becomes fully encased and Paralyzed only if it is already Helpless (unconscious, willing, or otherwise incapacitated) at the start of your turn. Huge or larger creatures are immune, and many elite creatures have condition immunities or Legendary Resistance that shrug it off. Encasing a living being risks hibernation sickness on thaw (GM discretion).
