Lore
Corellian Engineering built the HT-2200 to take a bite out of the market the YT-1300 had created, and it did not work. The pitch was sound enough: four fully independent cargo bays, each with its own gravity, temperature and atmosphere controls, against a YT-series hold that shared one environment with the rest of the ship. That is a genuine capability. An HT-2200 can carry livestock in one bay, volatile chemicals in the second, a refrigerated consignment in the third and ordinary crates in the fourth, on the same run, without any of them ruining the others. For a hauler working mixed contracts it is the difference between one trip and three.
Everything else about the ship undercut it. At 54.8 metres it is substantially larger than the freighters it competed with, and the powerplant never caught up - a Lotek 11P generator that runs overtaxed, a single Koensayr ion drive, and maneuvering thrusters that were inadequate from the factory. The result is a ship with a poor lift-to-mass ratio that is slow to accelerate, slow to turn, and tops out around 750 km/h in atmosphere. Its armament is two Taim and Bak Queldor single-barrel laser turrets, which is thin cover for that much hull. Spacers called it pirate bait, and the reputation stuck hard enough that reviews were poor, Corellian support was indifferent, and the line failed commercially.
What survived is a lot of cheap, capacious hulls in civilian hands. An HT-2200 is the ship a crew buys when the contract is bulk and awkward and the route is quiet, and it is the ship they regret the first time something fast comes alongside. Owners almost universally replace the drive - the Incom 1L10 and SoroSuub units are the common swaps - which tells you where the money goes first.
(Assumption: production start and end dates are not recorded in the sources; the dates above are in-universe sighting dates. The canon appearance is a passing mention that carries no specifications - every figure here is from Legends material.)
